Buried copper and Fenland bog oak
Dimensions: 8 x 18 x 4.5cm approx

This piece is inspired by the Fenland landscape itself. With its man-made geometric field systems, straight lines and architectural form it is almost the antithesis of nature and our image of the countryside. Mankind’s hand is evident everywhere. Hand-pierced parallel lines suggest tracks of machinery, the curves are a cross-section of drainage channels.
The copper has been buried in Fenland soil to patinate the metal, giving it an aged and worn quality and the bog oak used dates from 3300 BC and originates from the Fens.
