Buried brass and Fenland bog oak
Diameter of each disk: 8 cm approx
Overall length: 12.3 cm approx

Toy is quite simply a piece that was inspired by a plastic toy cellotaped to the front of a weekly magazine that I remember I had when I was a child. I was fascinated by the way that two flat disks could not only become so three-dimensional but also their movement when “propelled” across a surface.
Having visited Flag Fen and Sutton Hoo I was also intrigued by several objects whose purpose have been lost but are beautiful objects in their own right.
The brass has been buried in Fenland soil to achieve the patina and the bog oak from the Fens dates to 3300 BC.
