Growing up on a farm I remember the local women who often helped with jobs such as potato harvesting and daffodil picking. Across the country their labour sustained agriculture, yet their stories remain largely unrecorded. Sister I embodies these women: strong, resolute, and unbowed by the Fenland’s harsh conditions. She is tied to the land, anchored by necessity rather than choice— no fuss, no sentimentality, just grit and determination. This sculpture honours the quiet force of those whose work shaped the rural landscape but rarely entered its history.
